Another faulty car thread
Options
Well I've not been here in a while! Anyway. Decided my car was far too sensible and went and bought a V8 Jeep from a dealer as a supposedly fun toy, which hasn't been much fun so far.
Day after purchase battery is flat. Dealer suggests I try to jump it, which I do successfully but doesn't solve the problem, still goes flat almost immediately. Dealer then agrees I can take to my local garage and he will pay the bill. They have it for 3 days and diagnose poorly wired aftermarket radio draining faulty battery (both of which the dealer told me he fitted). £300 which he hasn't yet paid (although its only been a few days).
After getting car back I discover an intermittent starting problem. When warm it requires 2-3 longish attempts before it will start. When cold its fine, when its just been a couple of mins its fine, but when left from warm for an hour or two I get this problem every time. Just told dealer about this and he hasn't really commented.
TPMS throwing up errors. Looks like a couple of tyres don't even have the sensors fitted. Dealer says he will sort by sending the requisite parts to me but has not done yet. I now suspect the car will have to go to a specialist for the sensors to be properly programmed in. REALLY annoying because it bongs and flashes on the screen.
Dealer assured me he would print off service history of work he's done in past year for previous owner and I have this in writing. Hasn't been forthcoming so far.
Autobox occasionally shifting quite harshly. Could just be me being used to a much more sophisticated BMW autobox along with hypervigilance.
Faults aside I do really like the car, but I'm struggling to enjoy it atm with so many faults. I just want it fixed.
I could try to reject it under CRA, but 1. I imagine would be a battle, 2. I would be back to square one without this somewhat rare car I really want. 3. If it was just fixed I'd love it.
Anyone have any bright ideas other than sitting tight and continuing to hassle the dealer? Thus far he's been obliging but I am yet to actually see what he's promised or any money for the garage bill. Having said that its not been very long yet.
Or do I try to reject and get over it. Or do I try approaching my credit card company now?
He is some distance away so just taking it back for him to sort is a difficult option.

While the problems are annoying, it’s important to remember you need to return the vehicle to the dealer for repair if they insist - they didn’t make you buy it a distance away; that was your choice.
I’d see how you get on - the Jeep auto isn’t as smooth as the ZF boxes BMW like to use.0 -
Very true thank you. I'm sure I've bought bits off you when I owned a 75!0

Although Jeep do fit the 9 speed ZF 9HP auto on certain models, which did initially have jerky shift issuesOne man's folly is another man's wife. Helen Roland (1876 - 1950)0 -

So, the dealer has reimbursed my £300 but done nothing else. Sent several emails, and texted him but nothing. Getting fed up of this tbh, really don't have time for this. Any ideas?0

Best to return the car, take it back with a letter of rejection and list of faults. Leave the keys and letter, if you dont get the money in 14days then LBA them and then SCC.0

Trouble is its quite a rare car which I have neither the time nor inclination to try to find again, so would much rather I had it working and kept it!0

Is it rare rare not many, or sought after rare? I've had a couple of "rare" v8's back early 2000s.
When nobody wanted them.
Now? 1985 SD1s and 1992 RR Classics do good money0
