Allay letter about PPI compensation that we didn't ask for

My partner received a letter today from Allay that says that his redress amount is £895.62 from HFC bank. He never made a claim though, so we are wondering if this is genuine or a scam.
Enclosed there's also a letter from HSBC awarding the above amount to Allah's client (my partner).
I did some quick Google research and they seem to exist as company.
Has anyone had a similar experience?
