  • In my experience many splits that could have remained a level of amicable which would have been much better for the children involved deteriorate because a well meaning friend gives 'advice'.

    Given there are children involved and your friend is happy with the offer and although he might get a couple more thousand if pressed what would this cost in real terms... I would keep my nose out in your position.

    Oh and to add the Early redemption fee will be payable to remove him from the mortgage as the mortgage will need to be paid off and taken out again by his ex

    Surely its less of the OPs business than the exs father??!

    The offer is not unreasonable and the OP igniting a situation that doesnt exist based on a couple of grand at best when there are kids involved is ridiculous.

    Can the current deal be transferred to the ex and thus avoid the ERC?
  • Honestly, I'd check the ERC and then if it wasn't payable ask for me more, of it is then the decision is more easy life or not easy life.


    Personally, I don't think it will be payable if the mortgage is kept with the current provider so they are just trying to give as little as possible (who can blame them).


    If the ERC is NOT payable then I would expect 20-22k depending on circumstances. If it is payable then he can ask for more then accept an in between if he can justify it.


    I mean it also depends on loads of things, like what furniture is he getting or does he need to buy all new etc, so many variables that this money could be effected by.
