How to activate Facebook messenger

I rarely use FB, but someone has posted that they have contacted me through Messenger and I cannot see the message anywhere.
Help would be most appreciated.:beer:

    How are you accessing messenger?
    Through a phone app or PC?

    Simply through a PC, I don't use a smartphone.

    Click on the messenger icon at the top of the Facebook page.
    If they are not facebook friends then their message will be in message requests.
    click on there. Messages from non friends end up in there

    If you want to open Messenger in full screen then you can click on the Messenger link on the left hand side of the Home screen.
