Even so a grandmother may not be defined as a close relative.

It would usually come under the disclosure of material facts. eg any pre existing medical conditions affecting the health of the people travelling or a relative or a colleague whose health may affect a decision to cancel or cut short a holiday or trip of any kind.

You are correct, post 3 states there is no insurance despite another of the travellers having several medical issues. I think any offers of refunds should be grabbed ASAP.

Hi Everyone, bit of a torrid time to say the least, myself, Wife, Mam and Grandmother booked a fortnight holiday priced roughly £6000 to go in March.

My Grandmother has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and has not been given long to live and cannot fly. I have phoned TUI to cancel her booking and TUI are wanting us to pay an extra £1000 for a single occupancy for my Mam. This sounds absolutely unreasonable to me, do I have any options other than cancelling the whole holiday, which obviously we don't want to do. Can we fight these charges or not?

    Thanks
I wonder what will happen if you do nothing

    Well it will be either:-

    a) The grandmother travels against medical advise

    b) The grandmother does not go and they pay the full price

    c) They apparently can get a full refund

) No body goes and they loose a lot of money

    Take your pick

I agree. I think they're amazingly lucky considering they apparently have no insurance.

I think I'd want to cancel the holiday as it's only in March, and stay at home and spend as much time with grandma as possible. OP and his wife can always have a celebration at home for their anniversary and hopefully include grandma. There'll be other years for having a second honeymoon.

I'm not preaching to OP but if there's anything to be learned, take out insurance as soon as you book. You may not be so fortunate next time.
