Well if you don’t think having a photo of the person who signed for the delivery attached to the digital signature would help that’s fine - I however think in scenarios where there is a dispute it would be very useful.

Just think about it, if your old address hadn't been vacant and the new owner had signed for it- how would that help? You could try pointing out that it isn't you, but how do they know who 'you' are, and since there is no requirement for the addressee to accept the parcel how are you going to prove that the photo is not of some other person visiting your home . It actually makes the scenario more difficult for you as now the seller would have proof that it was signed for at the address they had been given and they have a photo to prove it.

As a seller if I could lose a paypal claim because I cannot ID the person in a photograph then I'd never sell online again- all a scammer would have to do is get someone to sign for their parcel and then insist they've never seen that person before in their life.....

Thankfully we don't live in a Police State...yet.

As Soolin points out above, it wouldn't be compelling evidence of anything in any case...

When I get a Hermes delivery that does not require a signature the courier signs my surname on the pad .
  • It’s nothing to do with being a Police state just merely helping with proving with who did and who didnt sign for something.
Most people would have officially issued photo id to provide to match or not match.
It was just a suggestion but if you are happy not receiving your parcels and not being able to prove it wasn’t you - carry on I guess. I personally wouldnt have any issues at all with it

But as has been pointed out anyone could sign for it, friend ,relative, neighbour... how many IDs would you need to check.

    It’s a non starter IMO

What Hermes may have done when attempting to deliver the parcel is to leave it with a neighbour or leave it in a 'safe place', e.g. chucking it over a garden gate or in a recycling bin. So it may be worth going back and having another snoop around and knocking on the neighbour's doors.

Also, there are secure delivery services available where you need to show ID at the door to receive your package. They cost money though. And obviously it's up to the seller to offer such a service.
  • Are you sure your details on Quiz aren't wrong?

I'm just trying to think of when I've ordered from a site & paid by PayPal asking for the items to be sent to my non PayPal address & it's never been an issue.

I once got notification that a parcel had been delivered by Hermes and phoned my husband to check. He had not received anything then but 30 minutes later the parcel was delivered. Presumably the courier had just signed a load off and delivered them afterwards to save time.

As others have said, Hermes regularly sign for the parcel in the owners name and then deliver to safe space. I'm wondering if in this case they have just rammed it through the postbox? So it's likely just sat on the other side of the door?

Is there a board up (rent/sale etc?) where you could ring an agent and try to get them so help. (or be super cheeky and book a viewing ;p)
