So your car flashes up an engine fault asking you to pull over and take to garage and engine starts struggling. Car manages to drive to dealer and lend you a car
Dealers calls and quotes £1000 to fix (including new wassagig and replacement fart convertor, you confirm it WILL fix it
You think about it overnight and decide you need a car for work and let them go ahead. Collect your car and confirm the problem won't recur.
6 weeks later you're 85 miles from home and same message pops up and engine under powers.
Crawl back to dealer to report
You collect the car at the end of the day where there's no paperwork and this time the receptionist says it's not a perminent error so it's not logged and so we can't fix it

I would post on a consumer website asking for a collective opinion.0

Displaying "engine fault" might be the same message but the root cause may be completely unrelated to the first fault.0

...I'd laugh my posterior off...it would be a Karma thing if it happened to the OP.0

I would take my car to an independent mechanic who does not charge the stupid money that dealerships do.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0
