Lost engagement ring and wedding ring

I’m so upset! I’ve lost my engagement and wedding ring totalling up to £10,000. Its insured on home insurance valued at £14,500. The rings were bought 2.5 years ago. I still have kept the certificate and receipt. Last time I remember was wearing it at Bluewater shopping centre on Sunday, I never take it off in public. Now I’ve been at home and only just realised yesterday it’s not on my hand anymore. I take it off only at home; showering, in kitchen doing dishes, changing my baby, drying my hair or going to sleep. I can’t believe I can’t find it. I’ve searched everywhere, moving furniture and emptying everything as if I were moving house. The ring is insured separately at £14,500 with £500 excess. Insurance covers; loss, theft, damage and abroad. How can I be so stupid to lose my ring at home? I’m certain of it but I can’t find it anywhere. I’m worried if I tell my insurance they will reject my story as last time I remember wearing my rings was when I was out shopping, but I never take it off unless home. Would they reject that?

It could have been stolen. You would be amazed what some high end pick pockets are capable of.0

What's the point of even asking this as no-one can give you a definitive answer. I'd say your options are to make a claim or choose not to in case the insurer might reject it.
If you do make a claim I'd strongly recommend sticking to the truth (however vague it may be) rather than trying to invent a more plausible sounding story as you'll almost certainly be caught out in any lie and end up with a much worse outcome. I'd also be less ambiguous about how many rings there are as it seems to flit between one and two depending which bit of your post you are reading!0 -
Have you reported the loss to the shopping centre and Police? They may have been handed in.0

First you say Rings and them, then you sai 'it' a few times....
Is it both you have lost or just one.
Be careful with your insurance company...make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Move all the furniture fully.
I was beside myself once at a hotel.
What had happened was that I was ill in bed and must have knocked the rings off the bedside table without realising.
It took both of us to move the bed fully.
Retrace you’re steps.
Did you get up at normal time, shower? Wash up?
Are the rings loose enough for someone to remove them without you noticing?
Mine are a small struggle to get off so I can’t believe someone could have done it without noticing.
Did you bump into anyone or did anyone get suspiciously close? That might be a dumb question if it was really busy but sometimes something feels off.
It really depends how good your insurer is but I’d say stick to the truth for sure. As any sign of contradiction May end up in rejection.0 -
Also you mentioned a baby, how old/mobile is it and do you have older kids? Mine love playing with my wife's engagement ring. Shiny...0

I have lost both rings. Sorry for my wording - English obviously isn’t my greatest subject.
I’m not sure someone could take it off my finger, it’s on securely, plus there were 2 rings together.
I have called lost property at the shopping centre but nothing has been handed in.
My baby is 6 months old... can’t crawl or climb furniture yet and even though he likes grabbing things I’m not sure he’d be capable of chucking my rings somewhere... who knows. He does love playing with it when I wear it though.
Going to ring the insurance company tomorrow and I definitely will be telling the truth as I there’s nothing for me to hide. Hoping it will turn up soon.0 -
I was babysitting one night in a right cruddy house ... grimy it was. Something caught my eye as I walked up the kitchen... shiny, so I looked - and there was a diamond ring, behind the bin, just about to disappear down the crack between the lino and the skirting board, so I hooked it out.
The home owner hadn't even realised yet she'd lost it - it must've flown off when she was throwing something at the bin in the middle of/just after washing up or something. She was so pleased; if I'd not spotted it it'd probably still be there now, 40 years later.0 -
Have you looked inside your gloves, in the very botton of your hanbag, in the lining etcmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

1. check all shopping bags from Sunday
2. check anything you bought
3 if you bought clothes and put away check those drawers
4 have you put a Christmas tree up, if loose could get caught when setting up (this happened to some one I know, fell out when cat was plating with the tree)
