How do I knlw the remaining lifetime of a tomtom device?
Options
I need a satnav, I was told to get one with "lifetime" maps, however, looking into this lifetime means the life of the device, ive figured out what ones are no longer supported, but how do i know the ramining life a device has left until they stop updating the maps? I could buy one and they stop the updates tomorrow, is there a list of dates they released or how long they will support it for?
Thanks

You could always just use Google Maps on your phone - free, regularly updated and very accurate. I know the screen is a lot smaller than a dedicated satnav, but it's worth thinking about.0

I took it to mean it was always free, but you just wouldn't get the free updates if you got a new satnav.
I've had mine for years (maybe 4) now and still get free updates.0 -

Same here. 4 years now as well.
I think that some people stopped getting lifetime updates because their device didn't have enough memory to store the larger, newer updates.
But then I do take lifetime anything with a pinch of salt TBH.0 -
I think they work on the basis of the device lifetime. So once it's no longer made or supported. What are Lifetime Maps? When you purchase a navigation device or smartphone app which includes Lifetime Maps, you can download 4 or more full updates of your map every year for the lifetime of your product. Lifetime Maps are available without additional charge and for as long as the product is supported.Life in the slow lane0

This is from their website -
"What does “lifetime” mean?
Lifetime is the useful life of the device, which means the period of time that TomTom continues to support your device with software updates, services, content or accessories. A device will have reached the end of its life when none of these are available any more. The useful life of the smartphone app means the period of time that TomTom continues to support the app with updates.
Lifetime Services can only be used on the device or app they have been purchased with and cannot be transferred to another TomTom device or app."
I no longer use their devices now, Google Maps preferred, although I still own a Goxxx.
They are and always have been very vague about what "Lifetime" really means, i.e. how long. From past experience though, it has been years.0 -

Depending on phone model, it may not be so noticeable. And if the car has an Infotainment system that supports projection then Google Maps can be integrated with it via Android Auto / Apple Carplay.0
