Online Contracts

Is it possible to sign contracts and mortgage deeds online for a purhcase?
We are "supposedly" meant to be exchanging this week but I have received nothing in the post and when I question my conveyencer I don't get a straight answer. Making an already frustrating and stressful time even more so!
Everyone is working towards completing next Thursday

Mortgage deeds (and anything else requiring to be registered) require ink on paper, so not them. Contracts yes in theory (in fact they can be signed by your solicitor), but in practice also need your signature on paper. In either event they can be issued to you by email to be printed and posted back.

Next Thursday is over a week away, that's plenty of time, though you might need to accept a shorter period between exchange and completion.
  • That's what I thought - I know they have had the mortgage offer for a while so am not sure why they haven't sent it out yet. Another phone call and email chasing - why does it always feel like you're paying them to do the work that you end up doing yourself!

We have accepted that it may be a shorter time between exchange and completion but it would help if I was given a direct answer
  • Sounds like exactly what the bottom of our chain are trying to do! All aiming for completion next Thursday. I was told that their solicitor sent the contracts out by email on Monday and would accept scanned versions back once signed (with the originals going in the post) so that it could be pushed through quickly.

No idea whether that's actually happened or not as the solicitors have now gone radio silent, but I'm told (by my solicitor) that this is an acceptable way to do it.

They usually wait until they have all of the paperwork and send it out to you in one bundle as it takes less of their time and doesn't slow down the process at all.

Hopefully it gets posted today then as I presume they need that to be able to request the funds to complete next week!!
Now I know why it's taken my 14 years to move - too much stress involved! :wall:

I'm presuming that this is what we will do too - although having just spoke to my solicitor again I still haven't been given an answer on whether we are exchanging this week
  • Well, good luck with yours! Hope we've both got new homes for Christmas!
