 Just how many steps it is from your driveway to the front door? You might as well build a ramp on it with a handrail!

There are 14 steps up to the front door and they are curved.

Crikey, that is a lot of steps. Don't think I have ever seen a house with that many steps to the entrance. Must be a pain carrying the shopping in.
Although I still jog I definitely have a dodgy knee which for some reason just gives on stairs now and again.
    The joys of getting older.

Ah, I can see why you are tempted to move. I do live on the first floor flat but with a private entrance onto the road so I can see why you might have a problem!

All the houses in this road have the same number of steps or more. I have my shopping delivered!!

The upside is that we overlook the grounds of a stately home and have a great view because we are so elevated.

I have the opposite issue, i have a small 2 bed property and my parents have a 4 bedroom house, i often wonder what am i going to do when the day comes that i inherit the property? As much as i could try, i can't accomodate a-lot of the belongings in the house... I mean, yes I have a garage but i can't really put a decent dinning room table in it just to effectively suffer from the elements not to mention lots of other stuff so realistically, i'm thinking i'd have to get a place with a double garage and maybe 3 or 4 bedrooms just to give me more space to put some of the things such as extra dinning room table, a nice wooden kitchen table and space in the garage to store lots of remaining items. I fully anticipate leaving washing machines, sofa in the property or disposing of them as no way i can keep those, unless there's mine is having issues and i can swap it. Not one to get rd of family stuff so will be hard if i have to.

Not currently but I lived & worked there for 15 years & have just bought a house in Brittany. We plan to take up residence by 31st December 2020 ie end of Brexit transition period so that our rights to residence, pension, healthcare etc are locked in for our lifetimes.

Would it not be possible to simply swap houses and then sell yours?

The normal course of action would be to take what you (and any other beneficiaries) want from your late parents' house, then get a house clearance firm to take everything else away, then sell the property.

If you don't let anyone do the job and hoard your late parents' furniture for no reason, you will just be kicking the can down the road for your own heirs / executors.

Yes, i agree but there are some things i'd like to keep that currently have no room for so not sure i'd want to part with them. Ofcourse things like beds, sofa, tv and kitchen appliances would be got rid of or sold with the house if wanted but more personal belongings, and some bits of nice furniture, i'd prefer to keep mainly some chest of draws, sideboard cabinet, dinner table, kitchen table as they are nice items and cost a bit at the time of purchase and are still good today.

A single, wont be anyone to leave anything to so it will all just be sold/cleared.
