Old Style Daily Wednesday 11th December

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning everyone :hello:

This is going to be a bit of a moany post so please feel free to ignore :o. I have been out and about this week which is a good thing. I went to Tesco on Monday as Asda didn't deliver my turkey crown I had ordered. I only managed to go down 4 aisles before my legs gave out but it was a start.

Yesterday, Steve and I had an appointment at the Jobcentre to sort out our claim for Universal Credit. We got there 15 minutes early as I had over estimated how long it would take me to walk up the hill. It was pouring with rain and windy but there was nowhere to sit and wait for the doors to open so I had to stand with my legs cramping up. The appointment was straight forward enough but I now have to get a fit note from my GP to prove I am unfit for work. Steve doesn't have to get one because he is my carer. He is my carer because I am unfit for work!:mad: It just seems like a box ticking exercise. I now have to go back today to meet someone who is going to try and help me find a job as I can't get an appointment with my GP until Monday to get a fit note. I then have to make another appointment at the job centre to take the note in. I am feeling very overwhelmed with it all :(:(.

It was my best friend's birthday yesterday so she popped in for a coffee and to pick up her card and present which she loved thankfully. After she had gone I spent most of the day in bed recovering from the shenanigans from the morning. I really hope the weather is going to be better this afternoon for my next visit to the Jobcentre.

Diet is going appallingly. I am so fed up with myself. I have no flipping willpower and I feel so miserable about it all. Never mind, today is a new day and a fresh start. I think we have something chickeny for dinner tonight. I just have to ask for lots of veg on my plate as well.

AAArgh, I am off to give my head a wobble and grab a cup of tea. Sorry for the woe is me post, hopefully I will be in a better place tomorrow, Take care my friends xxx

Morning everyone

dumpling thanks for starting us off x

Dark and not so cold here.

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was disjointed as DH had a bit later finish so had already eaten, DS1 and myself had sausages, bacon, egg, mushrooms, some LO mashed potato and beans. I remembered to get the beef out to defrost but it's still not quite defrosted in the middle, so that's in the fridge, I'll sort something on my way home from work as I need to buy bread.

Work yesterday wasn't too bad, although we had technology problems again which meant no computer access for a good while in the middle of the day. Hopefully today will be easier. I'm back at my normal office today, so my last working day this week, days off tomorrow and Friday then working again on Saturday.

Keep safe and well x

dumpling That sounds awful, they send you round in circles with all the unnecessary form filling/box ticking/systems-that-don't-work-together don't they?! It's about time someone with sense streamlined our stupid system.
I hope you have a better day today x

Scamp has been a bit odd lately. He definitely likes his routine but we've been out and about a lot lately, hopefully now things are back to normal he'll calm down again.
He's taken to howling at sirens – the fire station is nearby so we hear them every time they go out. He used to ignore them but has decided to join in :D He's not at all stressed by it so I'm not worried, in fact I find it quite amusing, lol.

Christmas has been ordered :D Everythng feels rushed lately and I can't face traipsing around the shops. My problem now is that I'm too scared to leave the house in case I miss a delivery, lol.

The food shopping is coming this morning and Eon will be here sometime between 12-4pm to change the meters. Morning All

Blustery this morning but dry for now. Yesterday was just awful, torrential rain all day. It took me an hour and a half to get home due to flooding, felt completely drained when I got in, it usually only takes 20 minutes.

Anyway, I sorted out car insurance for DS1 as he's using my car when he comes over. It cost me a grand total of nothing so I'm really happy with that, he usually hires a car but that was going to cost around £200 and his flight times make it very awkward.

Also advertised baby Sophie's moses basket as she's too big for it now. I tried to do some knitting but couldn't settle. A good nights sleep seems to have sorted my mood!

Sorry you're having such woes dumpling, hope it all gets sorted out for you soon.
Driving already Gers? Well done to you! I used to find Ikea car park was quite good for getting the children used to a car.
How's your foot these days RR?

There's a stack of work waiting for me at school, teachers only realise it's the end of term when it actually arrive! It's the nativity this week too so I'll go and get tea and biscuits for the Senior Citizens who will be coming along for a special performance tomorrow.

Hope you all have a good day, take care. XX

Morning folks and thanks DUMPLING. The Job Centre visit sounds horrendous but well done you for actually getting there and going through with the appointment. All fingers crossed the claim goes through smoothly when you have seen your GP.

It looks much calmer outside this morning but it feels a bit nippy. The wind and rain finally caught up with us yesterday and what a horrible day it was. My poor bird table came to grief and is now lying on the patio with its roof broken. I will salvage it when it's daylight.

Lovely lunch out with my friend yesterday. We decided to postpone the Xmas dinner until next Tuesday and I had scampi instead. Very nice it was too.

I didn't intend spending but I ended up with the bargain of all bargains! Our Bon Marche is still trading, despite being told they were closing, and is currently just selling their own sale stock and now has a Jaeger clearance section! I got a silk shirt ticket price £125 for £7.50. I'm not normally a silk type person but at that price I am!! It's a lovely fit. The staff don't know what's happening and are hanging onto their jobs day by day and still hoping for a reprieve.

Not a lot planned for today other than the girls getting dropped off tonight after a long rehearsal day. They will be shattered and DD says just a quick supper and then bed, in readiness for another long day tomorrow. DD will be working so they are getting picked up by their dance teacher again.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need/want of them. JACKIE nice to hear from you but sorry your recovery is taking longer than you hoped. Take care all xx

Morning all

Feels colder here this morning and more rain due later, it was very windy in the night last night so would not surprise me if there are trees down today !

Off to work for me and another xmas lunch today so my cafe will be quieter again today there are so many xmas events on atm that work is not at all normal ! and the clients are all getting super excited for Christmas !

Might do pizza and salad for donner to clear some room in the freezer I am trying to clear some space for the xmas goodies but I just seem to be filling it up again !

Will make some short bread and gingerbread men today and possibly decorate some for xmas.

Camelot my feet are so much better thank you, the are still very sore by the end of the day but its so much more manageable now and Im not hobbling quite as much ! xx

Right better get on, Gers good luck with the driving xx

Have good days all xx
• Good morning everyone,

I stayed late yesterday for a call with a client in France, only for them to not 'turn up'. So headed straight home for a chilled and early night. Phone call with my mum for a bit then had my dinner and went to bed.

No gym this morning as I still couldn't find the energy, but yoga at lunch and a run tonight will balance that out. Still got some small bits and bobs I'd like to do around the house, including a pile of ironing, so I'll tackle that tonight i hope. Omelette on the menu tonight I believe.

Dumpling - Why do you need to go back today though if you're unfit for work? Seems like they're wasting your time and energy, not to mention the pain of it all - literally.
TA - Very MSE! Excellent find.

dumpling, grr on your behalf. It's so worrying how people in need are being treated now. I won't say anything more because I don't want to drag politics on to the page apart from don't be deterred by all the hoops you have to jump through and try not to let it affect you too much.

We got home last night so this will be a brief post as I look around at all the things we have to do before Christmas (I've just seen a ginger cat stroll across the lawn, never seen it before). One less thing is that we have decided as a family to just get small presents and then do something together next year so that will take the pressure off.

Right, I've finished my tea so it's time to get on. Steve is still asleep but he did do the whole drive from the Wirral so I'll leave him till he wakes.
• Good morning chums , up and about early this morning as for some reason I woke around 5.00am and just couldn't get back to sleep. Still an early start means a possible 'nanny nap' by lunchtime .

My friend picked me up for pub quiz last night and our team won a bottle of plonk which goes into the cupboard until we have enough for a share out (got three bottle so far so only another five to get) Think our share outs will be around Easter :)

Tru there must be a certain pitch that affects different dogs ears .My daughters little Maltese terrier Teddy howls at the sound of the Eastenders music yet her Jack Russell Lexi ignores it all :) perhaps the dog just isn't a fan (neither am I to be honest :))

Thanks for all your good wishes, and I hope with each passing day my arm gets stronger.
I actually managed to open the top of the child-proof bleach bottle the other day, :) and got really pleased as bottle opening with my right hand has been difficult and I have been 'borrowing' my next door neighbours OH to help me out .
Bless him he is a good lad and she is a smashing little lass. When all's back to normal again I will make him a cake as a thank you.:)

DD texted me last night to say there is some left over cottage pie in a Tuppaware box for me to pick up for dinner tonight :) her OH makes super cottage pie so all I will have to do is pop some veg into my steamer and the cottage pie into the microwave, dinner sorted for tonight :)
I have been so lucky with my family and friends and they really have helped me no end the past few weeks. I am such an independant old biddy as a rule and its hard when you physically just can't do things as you used to, but hey ho onwards and upwards.

Two weeks today, and all the excitement will commence ,Christmas has this habit of creeping up on you unaware at times .

Roll on Friday and all the uncertainty will hopefully be out of the way and the hysteria of the GE will be over with. I shall vote, as I have done in every election since I first voted years ago ,actually on my 21st birthday (it was 21 back in the dark ages before you could do it ) I remember being so excited about it which my late OH thought was a hoot. To me it meant I was a grown up :) even though I had been married for two years by then :)

My eldest is still in the USA until next Monday and seems to be having a great time in NYC she says the decorations are fantastic ,her and her other half went on a 1940s subway ride yesterday and she said it was brilliant as lots of people had dressed up in costume.

Right time for a nice cuppa and think about what's on the agenda for today.
Have a good day everyone ,the sun is out here in north Kent and it seems a lot less windy than it was yesterday at least

Cheers chums

Good morning folks.

I've been lazing in bed just thinking about times ahead. It's too early to get maudlin so I'll move on!

This morning I have a physio session, think it'll be my last one with the hospital, then my lovely friend will take me for a little shopping trip. I've an order to collect from Marks for DM and I want to try driving.

DUMPLING - despite all the problems you've faced you're doing so blooming well. You've come such a long way in a relatively short time so please keep that resolve up. Things will fall into place eventually.

TRU - thanks for the Christmas tune.

Right...this is me rousing myself :j

Happy Wednesday to everyone.
