Burglary Insurance Claim

Forgetful

Wonder if anyone can give me some advice on this?
So my mum who has DEMNTIA moved into Care home on the Tuesday, and on the Friday 3 days later at noon she got burgled.
Her neighbour called me and said the burglars are probably still inside the house, I live about 30 seconds walk away from my mums house.
So I went over about 5 mins later after getting dressed, and was thinking should I go into the house on my own, but just as I got to my mums house the police had arrived.
The police also told me that about a few minutes prior an officer on duty had seen the burglars climb over the back wall and had quickly chased after the burglars in their vehicle and was rammed by the burglars in their own car a few times... but the burglars got away.
Ok so I didnt know what was missing at the time cos it is my mums house.
I contacted the insurers on the Monday because no one was in over the weekend.
about a week later I informed them a medium suit case I had used to put some of my mums items in was missing and no receipts were available cos they were already in the house when I first started looking after mum after dad had died.
Now after 7 months the insurers have the police report and they say there is no mention of a suitcase being carried by the burglars.
And therefore Im telling lies.
So what shall I do now?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

What do you mean by "no one was in over the weekend"? Insurers not answering the phone? Can you also clarify the bit about a suitcase. When did you put your mum's items in it? Why was its absence not noticed for a week? I would have expected that to be the first thing you looked for after the burglary.
The comment about no receipts because they were in the house when you started to look after your mum makes no sense. What is the relevance of you dad's death to availability of receipts?
These are the sort of inconsistencies which do start alarm bells ringing for insurers.0 -
You could find that as your mum moved and the premises is no longer occupied they wont provide cover.0

Although she was only gone 3 days you may find the unoccupied property is not insured for theft.
What was In the suitcase - old clothing? If it was I’d write it off.
More importantly What happened to any valuables she had?
Does anyone have power or attorney or deputy ship under the court of protection?
This will be needed to sell her property (I’m assuming it’s owned not rented).
I took deputyship under the court of protection last year and started the sale of property (same situation) before having the court order so feel free to PM me if going down this route (can’t guarantee revisiting the thread).0 -
30 seconds away and you waited till you got dressed before going round !!!0

Admittedly in my 50s I’d probably scare them off naked ! But seriously do you think facing multiple criminals alone is a good idea??
Clearly it’s not.
As an aside the best thing someone in this situation can do is to remove any valuAbles from the unoccupied home to elsewhere when it becomes unoccupied. The old sheets and nighties can be done later.0 -
The Police report will be crucial here.
The occupant had moved permanently to a new address it would appear. This could affect whether you are covered at all, as others have said, never mind not paying out for a suitcase.0 -

I’m not sure how.
The police are interested only in criminal activities.
They have no interest at all in civil claims.
They would be able to confirm the criminal aspects e.g. there was a break in, but they will not help at all with civil aspects.0 -
The reason why the suitcase was stolen was the burglar's use it to carry items they get from the victims property so it looks normal to walk down the road with a suitcase than carrying items in their arms for all to see.
Where i live there was 2 breakins and both times they went in the loft and took suitcases to put the gear into and walked out the front doors and off down the street.
Some burglars will just steal small items like gold, money, jewellary and put them in the pockets and go but other may take small electrical items like games consoles, stereo's , mobiles and tv's as they are not that heavy now but i don't mean a 60 inch tv but if they get your car keys then who knows what they will take.0
