Another "someone is using my address" thread

Hi,
So as stated in the title, this is another "somebody is using my address" thread but is there anything more to it?
I recently started getting a magazine subscription sent to my home which I hadn't signed up for. It's a 'paid for' subscription and was addressed to a random woman (with a LTD company name) who I don't know. I'd "returned to sender" on a few issues but still kept on receiving the magazines.
I have now received a PAYG go sim addressed to my home with the same "company" name which I obviously found troubling. I proceeded to phone the company of the magazine supplier to explain the issue and they agreed to cancel the subscription. After digging around I found that Google had an old Google Maps tag with the company name tied to my address.
I've been at the address for several years without anything like this happening thus far, and the previous owners were a family though that doesn't rule out that they weren't using it themselves as a business address. From what I gather, bad credit is not tied to a property anymore and I have nothing to worry about in terms of inheriting debt, but what does this person have to gain?
There was no billing information sent with the magazine and the PAYG sim was just a sim so no contract is needed. So what gives? Presumably, they have opted to have the billing address as their actual address for the magazine so are they just using this as proof of residence for other services? This kind of proof is useless for loan applications and the like though so I don't understand it? I've read that people sometimes falsify location for school catchment criteria etc but again, this sort of address verification couldn't be used for this..?
Thanks in advance..

Simple
Just keep marking post
"Return to Sender Not know at this address"
Unopened
and pop into a post box next time you pass one.

Very odd. I wonder if someone is applying for cashback deals using fake details: both a PAYG sim and a magazine subscription are the sort of things that offer cashback signing-up incentives.
If you go to https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/ you can run a free search on the limited company name to find out if it really has been registered at your address.0 -
Have you checked on Companies House whether the limited company still exists? Has it had a connection with your address (or something similar) via directors/shareholders/past registered offices?
Could be somebody just getting the postcode mixed up (if all you enter is postcode + house number then you can end up with a completely wrong address).0 -
Thanks so far with the replies everyone..There doesn't seem to be any info on a registered business name that matches the one on the addressed mail I received.
verybigchris - Interesting thought. Perhaps that's it..?
davidmcn - A good point but I think someone would have contacted me by now if they weren't receiving their magazines?! Each magazine costs over £2..
45002 - I gave up on "returning to sender as I mentioned in the OP - that's why I called the magazine place direct. That in itself felt very dodgy with the call centre being a LONG way from the UK! My spider sense was already ringing in my ears and this made it even worse..
m0bov - Thanks, but the Experian site says the credit rating is not tied to property but to the person which is what I thought.0 -
We have magazines arrive with a notional cover price; in fact they are freebies that come with eg union membership or trade/ professional body membership. Their journey from the letter box to the paper recycling bin is speedy.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
