Cost of installing oak worktops

Hi all, basically trying to get some oak worktops installed. It's a small kitchen but the worktops are to be installed in a "U" shape with the hole cut out for the sink and hob. One joiner has quoted £450. Sounds expensive to me? This is in the north.

Going to get a few more quotes obviously but just wondering if anyone has had similar work done and thinks that's about the mark.

£200-300 would be a more realistic price but if others quote in the same ball park then you're going to have to pay it.

The price seems fairly reasonable.

Cut the worktops to size, scribe them to the wall, two cutouts and two masons + oiling etc.

Are you supplying the consumable products as well as the worktops (i.e. the oil, wax, polishing pads, connector bolts, moisture barrier paper) or is the fitter providing those?

I run a maintenance company specialising in kitchen and bathroom fitting.


Oak worktops are far more complicated to fit than laminate tops.


They need to be biscuit jointed as well as worktop bolts so they don't twist as they have a high expansion and contraction rate along the grain. Once they have been mitred and loose fitted, they need to be removed and oiled on all sides. Then they need to be fitted, but make sure you use slider fixings so that they can expand and contract. then they need another two or three coats of oil.


They are far more labour intensive than ordinary laminate so expect to pay a premium. Also you need someone that is experienced with installing oak, rather than a jobbing kitchen fitter.


Your price is about right.

We had our Prime oak worktops fitted in September U shape, hob and sink cut out. I supplied the Osmo oil and applied 3 coats all-round before the installer came, cost £350 all in. Really pleased with the end results.
