Good luck with the driving Gers.

Hope all the poorlies are doing as well as can be expected.

I went with sister-in-law to an exhibition at the Walker Art Gallery, An Englishwoman's wardrobe. It was great, the woman in question had been a shopaholic and when she died hundreds of garments were discovered packed away in her house. Many of them were unworn with the price labels or the wrong size, the thinking being that she bought them almost as works of art. Apparently it took her daughters 3 years to clear the house after she died, a warning to us all.

Today we are being taken clay pigeon shooting by friends of ours as a weird anniversary present. I'd be looking forward to it more if the forecast wasn't for driving rain. I've never done it although my mum who grew up on a farm was a crack shot and Laura has done clay pigeon shoots and is also a good shot. I feel I've got to uphold the honour of the female members of the family but am worried that I won't even be able to see the blessed thing.
  • Morning all, blowing hard here with rain but it was blowy and sunny yesterday so got some towels dry.

I'm waiting for a handyman to come and do a couple of things, he was meant to be here Saturday, didn't turn up but OH saw him yesterday, on his way to tell us that he'd be here today. Fingers crossed as one job is replacing sealant in the kitchen so that's twice that I've had to re home all the stuff from the big worktop. I could probably do this myself but I do pay rent which covers repairs. The other job involves removing the downstairs loo, fixing a leaky thing and replacing it and I could not do that.

    Tru,thank you for the carol.

Mehefin sorry about your huge bill. At least no injuries thus time.

The garden has reached that time in the year where it just looks sad but I've lots of bulbs in pots, I love watching them grow. Nothing exotic, just daffs, narcissi and crocus and some violas, obvs those aren't bulbs.

I should be out raking yet more leaves but not in the rain, I dislike doing it at the best of times but doing it wetly is not even on my list.

Hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Morning all
It's horrible here, very wet and windy. That's scuppered my plan for today as I wanted to go up to town on a few errands and there is nowhere undercover, so we would get soaked. Oh well ! I have stripped the bed instead :rotfl:. The bedding is in the WM and I'll hoover upstairs and remake the bed later.
Breakfast was lovely yesterday and nothing was running in fat ( _pale_ my stomach can't take that ) but much too big for either of us. We spent most of the rest of the day wandering around several garden centres and shops. I let him buy more lights, some falling stars to drop from the top of the patio doors. Oh I know I'm too soft on him, but :shhh: shhh ! they are really pretty and give a lovely backdrop to my tree ! We also bumped into another of Mr Fix it's cousins ( yes he has a lot ! ) which was great as we normally only see them at funerals, a shame really as it's a bit of a free for all when they all get together ! Much laughter and reminiscing ensues, which is wonderful as everyone seems to put all the worries of life on the back burner for a while :j.
Mr Fix It is now taking "arty" photos of the Xmas tree...... strange 'cos he nearly had a fit when I wanted to put blue and white lights on it .
I have several things on my "to do " list but I may take the afternoon off and just recharge the old batteries as we will be out early tomorrow to take DD to a hospital appointment for a procedure :o. It's in a new hospital (to us) and we have to go early to find it and then exactly where the dept is. Mr Fix It is on taxi duty as DD doesn't know if she would be able to drive back.
I shall stop waffling now ( I can hear the sigh of relief from here :D )
Take care all and I hope everyone has a good day.

    Afternoon :)

Does any one else feel that Christmas has crept up in a very sly way and suddenly it all feels way too soon :D Today has been the first day Ive really thought about to be honest beside a half hearted attempt at sone bottled pressies last weekend at the show.

Anyway last week I ate something clearly my old teeth couldn't cope with and managed to take a chunk out of a front tooth I mean really??? No smiling for me for a week and Ive even been holding my hand in front of my mouth to try and cover it ....So today was the first appointment I could get and my lovely dentist has sorted it. I say lovely with my tongue in my cheek as actually she is quite rude and to the point ...her poor assistant got a right earful today as did I... basically for eating at all  Anyway my dentist is in my old town so I took the opportunity to get some cards for the close ones (fortune spent) and a trip to Primark where the obligatory truck load was purchased for next to nothing and Greggs was visited ....steak bake and sausage roll with a belgian bun for later (dont tell the devil dentist though)

So cards need writing ....its nice now I only send them to people I care about but still lots and then theres always the guilt ones as they pop through the letter box and you havent sent one back.

Gers well done on the sleep its a big move forward. Pease check you are insured to drive though I had to get a sign off from the doctor under 6 weeks post op
  • Hi chums just a quick heads up I am OK but my arm aches like the devil typing so I shan't be long :) I am home in my own house but not driving just yet but I have some smashing friends who have helped me out . Did some ironing yesterday left handed and decided that it was so awkward it will just have to wait a bit longer ,soif I look a bit creased so what :) I seem to have lost my appetite since my fall and really struggle to eat one main meal a day . But it won't hurt to drop a few lbs before Christmas .DGS Henry is home this weekend from Uni in Essex ,my son-in-law is picking him up so I don't have that drive and DGS Jack is home the following weekend .My eldest DD and her OH are in NYC at the moment visiting my DGS Danny and his wife and they won't be back until next week.DGS Bens 24 next week also my youngest DDs big 50 a week thursday so its all birthdays before Christmas as my eldest had hers just before she went to NYC. All presents are bought and wrapped and the few cards that I do for immediate family are done the rest I donate cash to the Sally Army instead.
Right must stop now as its time for a cuppa and my arms aching

Take care all, even though I can't write much I am lurking and reading .Still not knitting yet either

    Cheers chums JackieO xx

Lovely to hear from you JackieO - please make sure you keep eating, it's an easy slide down as I know from DM this year.

Thanks Nelski - I phoned my insurance company and it wasn't really interested! Said as long as I feel OK and the doc has no objections then it's fine. I've been 'practising' the right leg movements without any pain. Think I'll have a little go tomorrow afternoon after physio.

The weather has been dire squared! I'm so glad to be able to stay indoors even though I'm desperate to go out. :j

Evening all! Didn't get up to much yesterday or today, visited a couple of shops to get some hooks to hang things off the dado rail and needed some bright lightbulbs, because it's like walking into a horror film thanks to the lighting in the hallway and landing [ the lights in the porch really emphasise how dim the other two are. Couldn't find lights, so went to the amazon to get some....
Am planning on fixing a tiled washstand I bought on FB a few weeks ago, just took the [badly chosen] screws out now. It needs a clean, a wax and some wood filler to repair the bodge job and bad screws on it. A job for tomorrow in between chucking the decs up. It's not in too bad a condition , although the marble base could do with cutting down and repolishing, but I was thinking of using it in the kitchen when that's finally done as an insert into a worktop for rolling out pastry and making pasta etc...

Thnks for the carols tru :) night nurse!! mehefin, good luck with all that, and boo hiss to 'orrible little twerp GF...Jackie, good to know you're improving..nanny, weather was the same here...go burrow and snuggle...TA, hope you managed with the bus. Snoozer, indeed a wake up call! Nelski, poor you! Glad it was promptly fixed! Holly, hope you mnaged to find something, that's really thoughtful [which is not to imply I think you're thoughtless BTW] Hope everyone is keeping OK inclding the no-posters...Triffic Tuesday!
