Stain / varnish finish is a bit different to coating in plastic. I have seen similar complaints elsewhere.

100% agree. So what do you do pre-purchase if you want to check what the reality of the wood is that you will be ordering? Go to a store or ask for a sample to be sent.

    Hi,

so you went for the cheapo option?
No , we went for the Origin range
  • The OP ordered something made out of basswood, in a warm oak colour - i.e. not just the natural colour of the wood. It's either going to have some sort of laminate applied, a wood stain or paint. It's NOT going to be just the natural wood. Unfortunately for the OP the point at which that should have been verified is pre-order, not on delivery/installation.
In the description it states they're treated to prevent cracking/warping. I think of that as staining or waxing, which would also achieve the medium oak colour. Why advertise blinds as made from wood if they're going to cover them with plastic? As I said before, If you buy wood flooring you don't expect that it'll have plastic on the top of the wood.Same with wood kitchen cabinet doors, although 247 blinds do list their Ecowood faux wood (plastic ) blinds under the "wood blinds" on their website section, so anything's possible.

Could you direct me to where you've seen other complaints please?
It looks like the last company they traded as went into liquidation and this one has only been around since February this year, unless I'm understanding it wrongly.
  • Just an update. Following our review on Trustpilot , 247 blinds have been in touch and offered to remake the blinds. Awaiting samples in the post. Hopefully there'll be something that looks and feels like wood. Hopefully we'll get something up at the windows before Christmas.
  • Just wanted to update the thread.
Samples came and we chose Kolsva sycamore as most like the colour we wanted and had the most grain showing.
Arrived very quickly and we got them up. Tip for fitting. The intermediate support brackets aren't the same depth as the end brackets. We made the possibly schoolboy error of fixing the first int' bracket level with the back of the end brackets which meant the header wouldn't sit in it.
Make sure the fronts of the intermediate brackets are lined up with the front of the end brackets.
