Nope, the L simply enables an employer to increase the code by a set amount each year.
For example in 2018:19 the emergency tax code was 1185L and employers added 65 to get to the emergency tax code for 2019:20 of 1250L.
700L in 2018:19 would become 765L in 2019:20 etc.
If the standard increase doesn't apply for some reason HMRC have to send a new tax code to the employer.0 -
No, they haven’t, I have had that £160 deducted in September, October and November’s pay.0

If the 1250L tax code was issued too late for the November payslip then it should be used by your employer on your December pay and you will get a refund of any tax overpaid (quite possibly all £480 deducted so far) in your wage.0
