Where are you in the UK? (I think the definition of "periodic" differs by country - e.g. in Scotland I think it refers to the original lease period and not the payment period, so a lease renews for the same period as originally contracted, even if no new lease is signed).

I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong. :)
  • It depends how nice your landlord is, but if you ask him for longer and set a date that you want to move, then he might agree to it.

We were looking to buy a house back in May when the landlord announced that he wanted to sell the property and we got a section 21 notice to move out within 2 months. The first thing I did was explain to the letting agent that we were looking to buy one anyway, they then suggested that we bought the landlord's property off him. The thing is, the whole point of us looking to buy a house was to get a bigger one with our son, as the flat was only 1 bedroom so I declined that idea.

In the end I asked the landlord if we could stay until we moved house, he agreed and told the letting agent to allow us to stay and continue taking the rent. The sale dragged on for nearly 6 months and he was fine about it, so you might find that if you explain why you need to stay a bit longer then the landlord will probably agree a later date.

    No, you are right.

However the OP referred to a S21 Notice which does not apply in Scotland.......
