Car buying comparison site

Options
Looking to buy a new or nearly new car but want to save money by viewing a list of what is available to match my requirements.

Most websites (from what I've seen) give you the opportunity to compare three of their cars (including Autotrader).

I want a website that allows me to enter what type of car and number of doors, best mpg, best insurance group, price range filter, lowest rfl etc etc, and then to provide me with a list of the cars available that meet these requirements.

Is there such a website available?

    Autotrader does it.

Click "more options" to get a lot more filtering.
    https://www.autotrader.co.uk/used-cars

    So...
    5dr cars £3.5k-4k, 60mpg, £20VED or less, insurance group 10 or less.
    Nationally, 635 of 'em.
Then you can use all the normal filters - so if you're in (say) the middle of Norwich, there's 11 of those within 40 miles.

Depeding on what's important to you try Pistonheads site - plenty of other search options vs Autotrader

I too have wanted a spreadsheet to be able to pivot/filter but have yet to find anything

Carwow will allow you to specify exactly what you want and get around 6 offers from dealers for you. The dealers do not know who you are, no obligation and often good deals.

I think Carwow also has a car chooser, put in your criteria out pop suggestions for various suitable models.

Best MPG depends on your journey type. Averaged over a full tank my car can vary by 27mpg. Short winter journeys 30mpg, long motorway trips almost 60mpg. Its a large diesel estate, around town its worse on fuel than a smaller engine, on a run it can be better.

Best insurance group, not really a thing. Why is it often cheaper to insure a car in a higher group? Why was it cheaper to insure a higher spec 2.2L diesel than a 2L diesel? Why is a group 12 car cheaper to insure than a group 4 car?

I recently tried using Carwow and I was somewhat disappointed.

You "build" the car you want and then dealers quote you a price, but if you've added options that require a car to be factory built, they won't honor the price quoted even though they quoted for that car and options.
They will try to steer you to a car already built and in stock that hasn't the options you require.

I tried this with 4 models, Fiesta, Polo, Ibiza and Clio, none that you might consider niche makes and models, I added some optional colour and trim options.
Lots of dealers responded with great offers, a good start I thought.

I tried to buy the one that I liked and the dealer tried to fudge their own offer telling me they made a mistake with their offer rather than admit they were quoting figures that they just couldn't match.

Turns out I got 21 offers for 4 different models and not one could supply the car with the specified options "built" via Carwow's site at the price they quoted, a couple even tried to sell me a different model altogether just because I selected a colour and they had that in stock in that model.

Most would when pushed raise an order for a factory build with the correct options but any discount disappeared and I would have to pay list.
One local dealer that did eventually quote via Carwow for a list price factory build actually made a better offer when I turned up at the showroom.

If you're not fussy on spec and colour and fancy something a dealer or importer has sat in a field somewhere, Carwow might be worthwhile.
If you've something specific in mind, try it but don't hold your breath.

If you really want to save money then you can filter out all makes apart from say Dacia, Peugeot, Citreon, Suzuki and Hyundai.
