Does the light still come on at night in the E7 switch? Perhaps have a look tonight.
    Yes definitely.
I've made sure there's no hot water, so tonight i'll turn the E7 switch on and if there's still no hot water in the morning i'll contact my landlord.

    Thanks everyone

If the E7 switch is left on, lights up but you doesn't give you any hot water in the morning then you have a faulty immersion heater that needs fixing PDQ.
    .

Ok must be that then. I'll test it tonight anyway.

Is that a quick job to fix or not ? Obviously i'll contact me landlord

Why would the other switch heat the water up but not the E7 one ?

The flashing red light will flash whether you are on peak or off peak - you need to check which rate you are on.

However if your E7 immersion heater switch has a light on it (usually the one that controls the lower heater) then you should be OK using the upper heater whilst the lower light is on because it means that your meter should have switched over to off-peak energy but its still worth checking that the meter rate has switched over as well.

The tank will have to be drained but it's not your problem except that you'll probably want to be in attendance.

Assuming you have two immersion heaters, the 'anytime' one at the top is for a dollop when you've run out in the daytime. Emergency use only or you'll go bankrupt.

The one lower down heats the whole tank at switched overnight rates. If it's switched on (and the light on the switch lights up at the witching hour) but doesn't heat the water, then it's it's broken ! The flashing red light will help you to see whether it's working, no need to wait for the water to get hot.

The E7 switch is only supplied by the off-peak controller so you can get get hot water at the cheap rate but it only works during off peak periods. The other switch is there to allow you to supplement your hot water at any time of the day, but as said above it will use peak rate leccy if you use it outside of off-peak times.

You do realise that all your leccy is delivered at off-peak rates during the off-peak period so you can use other stuff like your washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, cooker, iron and vaccy cleaner etc during off-peak times to save yourself money - especially if some of the appliances have a time delay function which allows them to come on during the night.

Not sure how you'd time delay your ironing or vaccying, but you get the idea. \Use the cooker timer to cook your xmas turkey overnight to save a few bob

The left one is the standard switch, the right one is the E7

Risk of angry neighbours if you use the washing machine and vacuum cleaner in the middle of the night... mob.gif

Risk of self-cremation if you set the tumble drier, washing machine or dishwasher to come on in the middle of the night... flame.gif

Leave the left one permanently OFF and the right one permanently ON.

Yes, if the E7 switch is on and the switch lights up at the relevant time then you should have hot water. If the water stays cold then it's a fault and one for your landlord to fix.
