I keep closing tabs using the left click button on the mouse and it more often than not will close more than one open tab. I just wonder if it's a dud mouse and I need to purchase a new one or is there some setting I may be able to change to rectify this? I haven't been able to find the solution as yet. Thanks.

You can change the speed of the double-click in Control Panel (Mouse properties)

You only single click to close tabs in a browser. ;)

@OP - is yours a wired or wireless mouse? If wireless then the batteries may be failing; if wired then see if a mate/work can lend you one for a test.

Ahem...yeah you do....but if the settings for the double click are too high, sometimes one single click can be interpreted as two by Windows (try it yourself).
The reason why it is closing more than one tab is because Windows thinks that you have clicked more than once on the button. That can be explained by A) faulty mouse or B) wrong settings.

If OP is closing tabs from the top-left of the browser then I can see that this could be related to the issue; if they're closing tabs from the top-right then it can't. :)

I don't know what you mean exactly. In Chrome, for example, as soon as you close a tab, the following tab moves to the left. If you leave the cursor in the same position (on the tab's 'x'), then it will be exactly over the next tab's closing x. So double click, two tabs closed.
(not sure I explained myself clearly but you know what I mean)

That's what I meant - if you close the tabs from the left-hand-side of the browser, after clicking the X the next tab to the right assumes the position of the previous tab (i.e. it moves left), so a double click could also cause that tab to close.

If you start closing tabs from the right-hand-side of the browser then clicking the X means that the right-most tab disappears but nothing then assumes its place. :)
