Renting problem with gas supply
Comments

The lady I heard of puts enough money in a savings account to pay for a years power.
If she gets asked she will pay, the point is that she actively tries to pay and gets a knock back.
As it is not her error but the energy supplier she is only liable for 1 year.baldly going on...0 -

I tried to sign up with Bulb but they cannot find my meter in the national database so I am unable to switch over to them until this is resolved. I apparently need to find my MPRN (Meter Point Reference Number).
There are no bills with the MPRN on it.
My guess is the previous tenants kept quiet about this and basically got free gas the entire time they were there, is that even possible?
Bearing in mind this is in Scotland, what can I do about this situation? I feel like I've exhausted all avenues from my point of view.Thanks.
Yes it's possible.
I had a similar problem but I was able to get my meter point reference number. I also managed eventually to find the "unregistered site team"; unfortunately I can't find the phone number but I will keep looking. Even so it took them 15 months to sort it out but I've had no problem since (it was about 3-4 years ago).
You could try phoning British Gas and asking for the number of the "Unregistered Site Team" or whoever deals with shipperless sites (shipperless means that gas is being supplied but no-one appears to be supplying it.)
Somewhere I think I have the phone number of the person who eventually sorted it out - I'll look for that as well - it's a Glasgow number but I expect they know who you would contact in Edinburgh.0 -
You are receiving gas, and you are using gas, so I think you know the answer. If you don't want a bill, stop using gas.
Beyond continuing to follow up with the network and suppliers, the only other action you could take is to raise it with the Regulator.
Yes the OP is but is not able to switch to a cheaper tariff than the standard variable
This is owing to someone else's incompetence and it is not reasonable for you to tell the OP to either put up with this or not to use gas in this circumstance as the OP is entitled to switch
Of course not paying will probably, lead to bad credit reports and this should be avoided
I would be doing nothing beyond a complaint to the ombudsman and then asking for compensation from the whoever bills you eventually for any losses I have incurred0 -
art-vandelay we are in exactly the same position as you. We have been in our new property for three weeks and so far have been told gas may have been supplied by British Gas, Co-op, Npower or Octopus. The person who lived here died in 2018 and the property was passed to their daughters who sold it to us. I am going round in circles right now trying to sort this but no-one appears able to help and yes I've contacted all the sites mentioned in this thread by email and phone.
The latest suggestion is try and open an account with one of the big 6 and they will get it registered on the national database, I won't hold my breath. what a farce that we have to do the suppliers work ourselves to sort this out because of their ineptness. Our address is also "untraceable" even though everyone else seems to know where it is! I don't want to hijack this thread but if I have any success I will certainly pass it on.0 -

Just in case you come back OP, I'm sorry, I can't find any phone numbers I used.
Have you tried this site? It looks as if you could have a play around with different versions of your address, bearing in mind what owain moneysaver said about Edinburgh flat addresses.

That's quite useful, especially if you do a postcode only search.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0
