Telegraph auto-renewal refund right?

I want to check if I should have been able to or if I am still able to cancel my Telegraph subscription that renewed yesterday, I only realised when I got a notification from Paypal that £70 was taken from my account.
I phoned to cancel today (6/12) and the first person I spoke to offered me a reduced price of £50 and I said I would consider it. I phoned back an few hours later to cancel but the person I spoke with first offered me a higher price. He reduced to the same figure of £50 eventually and said it would be done by refunding me £69 something and then putting me on to the £50 yearly subscription.
I asked to cancel my subscription. The rep said that I would still have to pay for the year / subscription until December 5 2020 (no refund). He said I couldn't cancel and when I said ‘I think I have a 14 day cooling off period’ he put me on hold for a few minutes and then came back and said that he checked and that, that only applied when I first signed up
He then suggested £5 per month which he said would give me the option to cancel in a few months. I took this as it seemed the only way to not take out a complete year. I’m not sure if I have a right to cancel or not? I have the same subscription number.
Telegraph sends a lot of junk to my mailbox so I missed the renewal notice. My Paypal account is linked to the subscription if I block them will they try to come after me e.g. credit wise/debt collectors etc?

My telegraph subscription allows me to go in to my account and switch off nearly all of the junk email.0 -
You can cancel it via your paypal acc. Google it as it's not in a logical place.
It won't get you this £70 they have just taken back and unless Telegraph say they will refund then you are subscribed for another year.
Just ring them again and cancel the auto renewal and then do the same in your paypal account.Life in the slow lane0
