What do you mean "(day after the tax expires)"?

    Go here...
    https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk
    Put your reg in
When you get the tax/MOT details, click the link below to check the tax rate. You'll be asked for the doc ref from the V5C. If yours is not the most recent V5C, then you aren't the registered keeper of that car any more. Could somebody have got to your post?
  • I rang DVLA up and they have no idea whats going on, they can see the letter on there system which was sent too me.

It says the SORN will start on 02/02/2020 - the tax runs out on 01/02/2020

Tax runs out on the last day of the month, not the first. So it will run out on 31/01/2020 and any SORN to be applied for needs to run from 01/02/2020. Are you sure it was the DVLA you were speaking to?
  • Yup, checked number and all looks ok

I never applied for my car to be SORN, im wondering if someone is messing about

When I apply for SORN, it starts the next day if I use the V5 (because there are 6 months to get refunded), or the first of the next month if I use the number on the tax reminder slip (declare SORN rather than re-tax it)

    Seems very strange....
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))
  • The department I need to speak too is not open on a weekend so will be calling them on Monday to find out what on earth is going on.

DVLA don't do anything that far ahead. I've just got my tax renewal V11 for a car due at the end of this month.

Post a pic of this letter, obviously with your address/reg/references obscured.

Have you checked the V5C doc ref yet?
