Universal Credit Online Account Help

Hello everyone,

My parents have recently been switched to Universal Credit and have a joint online account. Neither can use a computer so i have to log in for them and basically keep an eye on things for them. Earlier today i received an email regarding the account and was told to check a message in the journal, which said the following:
"Please login to your online UC account and accept your commitments by 9.12.2019.
We can't make any payments until you've accepted your commitments.
Failure to accept will result in your claim being closed."
Whilst logged in i noticed 5 things in the to do list, which i think are what need completing but i can not for the life of me figure out how to complete these? Can anyone help me? I'm worried the claim will be closed on Monday if i don't get it sorted quickly, seeing as it's now Friday.:(

  • If it helps, the entries in the to list are:
-Attend your work search review (Can only be completed by your partner)
-Health - declare a new fit note (Can only be completed by your partner)
-Accept your commitments (Can only be completed by your partner) Due by Tuesday 3 December 2019
-Tell us whether you use an extra bedroom because of your disability (Can only be completed by your partner)
-Answer a few equality questions (optional) (Can only be completed by your partner)

Am i supposed to click on each one to complete them? It won't allow me to do so?

I would infer you need to login as the other half of the couple. So if you logged in as your dad you need to log out and log in again as your mum.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
  • Unfortunately , the annoying thing about universal credit in your parents situation is that they have to log in at least a couple of days a week . I assume that you have user names and passwords.

When providing fit notes , you should take a copy down to the job centre in person , ideally making an appointment beforehand with their job coach.
I assume that their job coach contacts them on a regular basis .
They would get texts / emails reminding them to do various tasks
When looking at the to do list , press on the demands . It's possible they may have done the tasks already, such as providing fit note etc

The journal must be checked regularly . Never ignore anything .
There is a tab that says check to do list . That should have a list of all things that have or haven't been done yet .
In the journal , the universal credit people post letters on there instead of posting and you may see notices if the things that have been done

The main thing is communicating in the journal on a regular basis , and eventually you should all get to grips with it

    Hope that helps

OH! Yes, i'm currently logged in as my Mum but i am trying to complete the do list for my Dad. I can see his to do list, but yes that may be why it won't allow me to do anything. I'll try that, thank you!
  • It worked! Thank you! That's a relief! I thought i was pretty computer literate but even i couldn't figure out what i was doing wrong there.

    Glad to know it worked.
