Incorrect DVLA refund amount

I recently bought a car for £500 and paid the full year's road tax (£145) on the same day. Three days later I returned the car as it had many faults - I got the full £500 back (but not, of course, the petrol and travel costs to and from collection and drop off, nor the insurance deposit and the one month's road tax - in total around £40).

I waited for the V5C (log book) to arrive in the post, then immediately registered the vehicle as sold and immediately claimed the road tax refund, expecting to receive 11 months of refund, i.e. £132.91, but I only received £24.16, i.e. two months' refund.

I'v emailed them twice now and keep getting acknowledgements, but no actual reply.

Has anyone else had a similar problem? Any idea why I only received 2 months' refund instead of the full 11 months after owning the car for only 3 days? Did you get your money back in the end? What else can I do? I am totally confused and frustrated by this situation, the whole experience has already cost me £40 for absolutely nothing, I don't want to lose another £108.75 over it :(
