House is half in trust

Im a widower and my wife left her half of the house in trust for the kids (which we both agreed) though land registry deeds not yet changed. The house insurance is up for renewal and rather than auto renew ive been doing comparisons, and of course the question of joint policyholders came up.
If anything happened to me then they needed to make a claim I dont want to leave the situation complicated for them. Am i legally bound to put them on or is it just the sensible thing to do so? ! Could there be a potential problem if the policy was just in my name?
My will leaves it to them anyway.

    what sort of trust?

IF it was a life interest

with you are the life tenant(quite common in this situation)

They have not inherited anything yet.
You will have beneficial ownership of the 1/2 in the trust.

Who are the trustees of the trust.
