No, that's not correct. A review is from the date of the decision, this means that because yours was a review you'll be backdated to the date the decision was made to stop your PIP.

If it was a change of circumstances that you rang to report then it would have been backdated to the date you rang to report those changes and not from when the decision was made to stop your PIP.

If I understand the OP's original post their case is one where they requested a review by reporting a change of circumstances.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
  • Yes, sorry, I've not been clear. I was already on PIP at the lower rate (both), my conditions deteriorated and asked for a review in August 2018. The decision was to keep it the same and I contested that stating that I was eligible for the higher rate. It was turned down at the reconsideration and I appealed.
  • It wasn't the DWP that instigated a review, it was me stating a change of circumstances.

It seems that we are going round in circles here.

Why don't you telephone them and ask why your new PIP award was backdated to January 10th 2019 and not before that?

Write down all the relevant dates before you telephone - the date you asked for a review, when the decision was made, when the appeal decision was made etc - and see what they say.

Yes, an interesting thread. Thank you. I shall start with a call to the DWP and if I don't get a satisfactory answer I shall write to the Tribunal and see what they say. I will let you know how it goes and many thanks for your help.
