You'll need to set-up the wireless details (settings, passwords etc) on the laptop so it can see and connect to the wireless router.

You need a separate firewall and anti-virus package on the laptop, it will not use the one from the desktop!

If it's a paid for program it may only be licensed for one machine. What is the name of the software on the disc? There are plenty of free security programs you could install, including PC Guard from Virgin.

You don't actually have to install anything for broadband, just set up the network connection on the laptop. Have a look at the stickies in this forum for advice.

  • You can get a free anti-virus here:
    http://www.free-av.com/

    and a free firewall here:
    http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/catalog/products/sku_list_za.jsp?dc=56pus&ctry=GB&lang=en

Both as good as any paid for version

Dont forget to lock-down the new laptop before adding it to your wireless network else you will open both your computers to hackers :-(
