Engine Management Light dashboard problem

Options
I've just got a Ford Focus C max 2.0 TDCI 2005 but been having trouble with it ever since I got it. The guy I bought it from seemed very dodgy, but because it was going to be a temp. car, I got it and hoped it would be okay for a few months.

The issue is that the car randomly stalls and won't rev/move, without any warning lights on the dashboard.

I just did the hidden Ford test/menu, and when it did the "LED Test" of the dashboard, all lights show except the engine management light, does anyone know why or how this would happen, or is it possible that the previous owner did something to it to switch it off?

Its possible its just broken, its possible they broke it or its possible its been broken for the last 10+ years.

    Possibilities are endless (almost).

Its 14 years old, either spend money that maybe not worth it or ignore all the minor issues and just make it safe to drive.

So the engine management light isn't doing the usual ignition-on self test, either?

    Read fault codes.

if the light for engine management does not come on when you switch of the ignition - in 99% of the cases is that the light has been tempered with.

Either removed, blocked, painted etc. Normally you would do that to hide known problems. <1% is actually a issue with the light bulb itself being faulty.

an OBD2(on board diagnostic) tester will cost you from 15-20£ and give you a good and first idea whats wrong if there is an issue with the car(engine) probably the cheap units give you a 100% reading, but they work certainly well to direct you into the right direction. If more than 1 error appears and they aren`t related to each other, i would say that its like that criminal energy is behind that the light bulb isn`t doing what it is supposed to do.

Well I have two a hardwired which I keep at home and bluetooth which I keep in the car more as just in case, thought it was regularly used with my previous car due to a known issue with it but it helped to get me home when required.

Could be a whole host of things, which is why you need some fault codes to start with, but the Fords are supposed to cut out if the engine speed drops below 700rpm to prevent damage to the flywheel, the throttle pedal won't do anything to save it as it is an electrical system- you can't "catch it on the pedal" like an older car.

Hope it's not due for a MOT anytime soon as that's a fail...
