they are not talking about Win10 upgrades, they are talking about win7 to win10 upgrades not being free anymore.
My win7 laptop won't upgrade to 10 I think there is a hardware problem it can't get past so it never works (tried an upgrade and a clean install already).0 -

Have we looked at this before? What is the model involved?0 -

Don't think so, its an ASUS f3jV, its ancient (2007) I think it came with XP installed upgraded to Win7 years ago. Works just fine as it is, it never goes onto the internet. Tried everything to do the upgrade including removing all removable hardware (wifi card etc).0 -
Have you upgraded the memory from the original 1GB that they were sold with?0

Need to have another look, it's not my main laptop now so the spec is a but fuzzy, I only use it when I need to use the autocad installed on it.0 -
I'd install Windows 10 on a new hard drive, so you can dual-boot into both Win 7 & 10. It makes it easier to copy across any app data that you might have forgotten to back up, and leaves you with Win7 in case you have any problems with Win10.
Disk imaging software (like Macrium Reflect) can create an image file -- a backup of an entire hard disk or partition. You could then use that image file to restore Windows 7 exactly as it was previously, if you have problems with Win 10.

What would you advise is the best back up medium for the Macrium, disc or portable hard drive (how "big" for the hard drive) please.
P.S sorry for the non technical terms!!!!!! I am a non-tech person!:smileyheaMagenta0
