DVLA website tax status incorrect.

Options
Hi all, last night I bought a car, a 2008 ford fiesta 1.6 Ghia, MOT'd until mid march, for the princely sum of £300, it's a lovely little car, however...

The vehicle was as you'd expect, declared as off the road and had a SORN in place, and the dvla website reflected this, so last night I switched my insurance over, and then I applied for my own road tax and received a receipt in the form of an email, I checked the dvla site again this morning and it still shows as SORN, which is no surprise really as it does state that it can take up to 5 days, however, I have just checked it again a few minutes ago and it has now changed from showing as SORN to being untaxed.

It obviously IS taxed, which I can prove beyond reasonable doubt as I do have the direct debit receipt confirmation for the car, I get the whole taking a few days to update thing, but it's just a little odd as in reality the old keeper had it on SORN and I then taxed it using the new keeper supplement, so at no point in this process would the car ever have been untaxed, and so in my mind there's no explanation as to why it should show up as such, obviously a little concerning should I get pulled, I can obviously prove otherwise but it's still not great is it, are there any DVLA experts in here who may have any idea how this could happen?

Many thanks in advance :)

  • They have changed the keeper status before you tax application has completed.

Changing keeper has cancelled the sorn, the tax just hasn't caught up yet.

You did apply for the tax using the number on the small part of the V5 from the back page, (the new keeper section) and tick the box that said you were the new keeper?

If you taxed it with the number on the front of the V5, it is taxed in the name of the old keeper, and when you change keeper to you, the tax is cancelled, and they get a refund.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

No no, I did it using the new keeper supplement, all a panic over nothing in the end as it is now showing as correctly taxed as of this morning, thanks everyone :)
