    Just a few threads:

    Foreign cheque, payable in UK?

Paying in a cheque in $

Are you sure you can cash in the cheque in the USA withot having a current account there?

If you can,you are best to cash the cheque in the States. You may need a letter of authority from the drawer to inform their branch that it is ok for you to cash the cheque.Don't know American banking regs.so it may be an idea to see how feasible it is
to cash cheques there before you go.

Failing that, you could try to credit the cheque to one of your credit card companies
while you are still in the USA.

You could see if there is an alternative to being paid by cheque.

The worst case is to bring it back here and bank it with any of our major banks. As the cheque will be in dollars, your account will not be credited until the cheque has been sent to America, paid, and then the funds,in pounds, sent back to your bank. This will
take, amazingly, several weeks to complete, and both banks will remove steep charges
    for performing this simple transaction.

I've cashed a cheque over there before - you just need to sign the back and show ID to prove you're you - then you can walk away with the cash.....

So by the sounds of it, I should get cash, then come back home avec cash!

Only problem is that there are a couple of days shopping in the largest mall in the world between getting the cash and flying home.......uh-oh!
