Barratt New Build Extras

Hi,

I’ve have today reserved a new build with Barratts and I’ve been told any upgrade extras (kitchen, bathroom etc) must be paid for in full upfront prior to the roof being put on which is in 2wks time. This is 4mths prior to completion as house not ready until Spring. They have told me this is because the sale reservation is ‘unconditional’ as the sale of my current home hasn’t yet completed, going through but not yet complete.

Anyone else ever had this? Friends who have purchased new builds with other builders have never been asked to pay for extras until around a month before moving in.

Thanks

Have you exchanged contracts as yet? They let you reduce your deposit to cover this.
  • We are not with Barrett’s, but we reserved our new build on 3rd Oct, paid for our upgrades in full on 27th Oct, exchanged last week and hopefully will complete by the end of March.
