Looking at previous posts by the OP, who has pension investments (didn't even consider £700k for a DB pension for example so seemingly well funded), talked about going on expensive holiday less than a month ago but "no money, no job, no references" in this thread.

A previous BTL owner, so one assumes knows something about renting from the other side of things.
I see you've edited your post, which originally included words about how I was posting to get a reaction and casting doubt on my no job, no income, no references comment. Thank you for retracting your inaccurate and unfounded accusation. You've obviously done some research on me but if you'd done a little more on these boards, you'd have discovered that I resigned from work in August so I have no job and therefore no employment income. You'd also have found that I have a good Defined Benefit pension but am not taking it just yet but living off savings/investments. So I have no other income either. You should have been able to work out from what I said on this thread that I'm a homeowner and maybe assume because of this I hadn't rented recently. So I would have no references as a tenant. You've spotted that I used to own a rental property and I didn't actually spell out that I never used an agent to let it so I'll concede that one. I'm not sure of the relevance of my decision not to take a cash equivalent for my DB pension or where I went on holiday recently (Chile and Easter Island and it was very nice thanks) to my status as a potential tenant.

The fact remains that, although I have cash and could pay in advance (and will have even more when my house sale is complete), I have no job, no income and no references. As confirmed by the "wouldn't touch him with a bargepole" comments from some experienced LLs, I may have a problem finding somewhere to rent and I understand why. I have also had some useful comments on how to get round this for which I am grateful. Wish me luck - I'll update with my experiences. ;)
