Key Cutting Machines

Anyone used one of these machines that do automatic key cutting, the sort you see in places like The Range or B&Q.

I used one today in B&Q and its almost a con or scam and I should have know better with a company called Iconx as I assume it translates into I conned you £10 in Roman numerals.

The keys the machine made do not work and on the front of the machine it says “All aftersales queries, including refunds should be directed towards the contact details below” then goes on to give a phone number 03335773033 and an email address info@mykeymachine.com.

B&Q will not entertain anything to do with the machine and ringing the phone number above gets the usual robotics response and on selecting number 2 option for “keys not working” gets a recording of sorry there’s no one here and you will get a faster response in emailing.

Not got around to the email bit yet, will do once I’ve finished this thread, but mean while it seems a great way to by-pass consumer laws for large high street shops by having machines in their store with no responsibility what-so ever to customers and assume they (B&Q) get money in rent terms from the owners of the machine.

Any thoughts.

No idea on the actual law, but similar has existed for years with ATMs in shops/garages etc if it swallows your card etc - the shop have no access to the machine to help, or in your case remake the keys or refund you etc
