List actual tariffs
New to the forum, so apologies if this has been asked many times, but does anyone know where it's possible to see lists of actual energy tariffs. I am on Ec7 and want to see the actual prices, for night, day and standing charge, in a list, where I can sort by the three different prices. I really don't want to have to endlessly use the price comparison tools for energy that we are all forced to use - which force you to enter total usage before getting a list of plans, and then clicking on every plan to see the tariff, often 2 or 3 clicks away. I a installing a battery to support my solar and what my usage HAS been isn't relevant. I just want the prices.
I'm hoping that, despite my failed searching so far, somewhere out there is a tool that can list all Ec7 tariffs, for my region.
And if there is no such thing, does anyone else wish this existed, or is it just me?

This is what the comparison sites do, feed them your details and they'll give you a list of savings and will usually give you the unit rates for that tariff.
The unit rates on their own don't really mean anything, because the entire concept of the energy bill for most people is based around usage. If one company has a high standing charge it usually follows they'll have lower unit rates, or vice versa.0 -
............ and want to see the actual prices, for night, day and standing charge, in a list, where I can sort by the three different prices. .................
That doesn't really as it's the overall bottom line of the sum of night, day and s/c's that add together to give you the bill. It's easy enough to use the comparisons when you know the day/night split.
Imagine having a list when the night unit had a supplier at say 5p as the lowest, but it's day was 40p and s/c £1/day; how would you compare with one at 10p/25p and £2 ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
It wouldn't be all that useful because you would still have to number crunch the results: selecting a tariff based on some of the rates wouldn't necessarily turn out to be the cheapest.
However, I'd agree that all sites should allow you to skip the infuriating 'Who is your existing supplier and which tariff are you on?' nonsense so that they can quote you a mythical saving you'll never achieve because it's based on Ofgem's daft rules. Stop messing around and just gimme the total annual cost NOW !
What's really needed is a site that just asks for your location and annual kWh consumption (including day and night E7, if relevant) and then automatically works out whether it's better to have separate suppliers or dual fuel, and E7 or single rate. The present setups require multiple iterations to find the best deal; most people don't even realise this let alone bother to do so.0 -
It's not just you RP7! This is exactly what I was just looking for. I've got a spreadsheet with my usage in - I just want one website with a list of tariffs from all the suppliers so I can type them in and calculate myself who is cheapest. Ah well, it looks like I'll have to put in the information they demand to get the information I want.

Offers available vary by region too, so it might be frustrating to find your chosen tariff is not available where you live0

You would need 11 different lists to cover the supply regions. Then a caveat for method of payment, dual fuel?

I use multiple comparison sites to find the hottest deals, ignore the suppliers I don't want to touch and then copy the two tariff figures from the interesting ones into my own spreadsheet.
I can't understand why anyone would want type literally hundreds of figures into a spreadsheet when the data could be invalid within 24 hours, and the only way to know it's accurate is to re-check every figure again.1 -
As above .Two i looked at this week changed prices overnight .0

As Talldave and JJ_Egan.Filter out the ones you wouldn't touch with a bargepole and populate your spreadsheet with your selection of "likely" suppliers. Good way to eliminate any uncertainty about VAT for example (are prices inclusive or exclusive) and project Whatif scenarios depending on your forecast annual usage. Whilst we are heading towards summer season now, consumption in some households might now be a lot higher than normal with self isolation etc.0

And if there is no such thing, does anyone else wish this existed, or is it just me?It's what the comparison sites do. They just don't show all available tariffs in an easy to read format, because it is what drives their systems (and business/profit). There are so many different parameters, as already mentioned. How would you make any sense of the numbers you saw without first estimating how much energy you might be using. For example, if you only use gas for heating and will not require it in the summer, the standing charge is more relevant. If you're on E7, maybe you don't have gas.If you're only looking at electricity, with solar panels, maybe E7 is better, as your daytime usage off the grid can be kept down. You have to start somewhere, and an estimate of your annual usage is a good place to do so. Then let the comparison sites do the calculating that you would have to try to match in your spreadsheet.I tried building a database of tariffs several years ago, before there were so many small suppliers. soon realised maintaining it would be a nightmare, requiring pretty much daily attention. You can't get rates you can directly compare because of the components that go into the tariffs. Soon abandoned the idea.
