e.g. Eon have started, but are saying it could be another year yet before this is completed

Hmmm. excuse me if I don't believe the PR bumph - I'll believe it when a customer actually posts to say that his original SMART meter has started working again0 -

This site has a list of which meters are SMET1 and SMET2: https://www.smartme.co.uk/technical.html
But unfortunately you won't know until the fitter turns up - and if you decline because you believe its an old spec device ,chances are high that you will get marked as "refused" which could result in the supplier turfing you off of a "good" tariff onto SVR tariff:(0 -
Incorrect information by the OP.
My friend has had a Scottish Power meter fitter who came to install gas and electric smart meters today . They are SMETS2 meters..EDMI electric meter and a Clara smart gas meter..Took about an hour and a quarter.
Nice to hear that Scottish Power fitters have just started on a bonus scheme to help push along the roll out.
After the first four meters, gas or electric , they get £12.50 per meter. Our man today had fitted 9 meters so a handy £62 .50 bonus for Wednesday..That will get them buzzing around a little faster instead of dragging the day out taking it steady0 -

hmmm .... one more reason to wait until smart meters are no longer an interesting topic of discussion
this kind of bonus always results in a lowering of overall standards0 -
Ok here goes my rant about 1st generation smart meters! I was given one by British Gas a few years ago, it was a god send because I am disabled and my gas meter is unreachable to read manually (I also won't let anyone else manually read it because it takes 2 people and they have to move my commode). I saw much cheaper energy prices with Bulb, so I switched and lost 99% functionality except it still gave me a meter reading so I stuck with it and gave it them every month on their app from my smart meter display. They kept promising new meters or fully functioning ones and not coming through on it. I saw better prices with E.on and switched (I checked if my meters would work and they promised they would). With E.on I had 0% functionality, could not even read the meters. They started estimating my readings which were massive, costing me a fortune. I pushed for a 2nd Generation smart meter and they said no my meter would work again "soon" this actually meant end June 2020 "possibly" - it could change as they jad been told it would be done by Dec 31s 2019 and that "soon" had shifted too. So I decided to leave E.on (£60 exit fees and a messed up bill) to go back to British Gas. Called British gas to check coming back to them would give me functionality back and was promised yes. They tried to charge me over £200 security deposits so I questioned why and said I'm only coming back for my smart meters to work again and I was told "they won't necessarily work again" !!!!! So I contacted EDF who said no security fees and GUARANTEED 2nd generation meters. The switch has gone through and I'm not eligible for 2nd Generation meters and just got an email basically the same as E.on saying "soon". I am absolutely frustrated beyond belief. These 1st generation meters are absolutely ruining my life!!!!! All I want is a meter reading that doesn't involve moving commodes, fridge freezers and contortion for a disabled person so I can have accurate bills!!! Can anybody help or advise. Why is this not more of a scandal?!?! This 1st generation meter is an absolute joke. I have had estimated readings for months, high and inaccurate bills and all these companies PROMISING me functionality or 2nd generation meters and not following through!! Do i now need to leave EDF? More exit fees and hassle? I'm giving up hope. There is absolutely nothing 'smart' about these meters, all I want is accurate meter readings I don't even care about energy consumption I just want normal bills.0

Strange your SP SM stopped functioning. Had mine SP SM installed in March 2017 and, after a few moves, the IHD is still functioning correctly. As Gerry says, sign up to the PSR.

Now i know they are still rolling out SMET1, i dont want one that will go dumb after 12 months. I will insist that they fit me a SMET2 and if they agree, how can i be sure they havent fitted a SMET1 on the sly?
Switch supplier, and see if the new supplier uses the meter in smart mode
If not, switch to Eon in plenty of time, as they plan to update SMETS1 meters over the air within 12 monthsAre those 12 consecutive months?I had E.on smart meters fitted at the end of 2016, they went dumb when I left and remained so when I rejoined E.on towards the end of 2017. I was told they couldn't reconnect it to their SMETS 1 system, but it would be connected to the DCC 'sometime in the next year'.Guess what?
