How much fabric?

Hi I have just received a quote for £880 to have 3 roman blinds made and fitted. I was gobsmacked!

Clearly I am not willing to pay that amount so I have decided to buy the fabric myself and shall pay someone to make the roman blinds for me. BUT I don't know how many metres I need to buy. Can anyone please help?

I have 2 windows measuring 116cms drop x 115cms width and 1 window 100cms drop x 58 cms width. These are the measurements of the inside of the recess as I wish the blinds to be fitted in the recess.

Any advice would be most appreciated.

  • Take your measurements to where you have seen any material you like and they will advise even market stalls. Dunhelm Stores are very good to get all your bits and pieces from. Do have a go at making them I got my dowling for the rods and top batten at my local wood /builders suppliers.
  • I agree with freya .They are quite easy to make and it is great to see your own self made blinds hanging at the window.Mine are much better made(if I say so myself) than most I have seen for sale. Also being able to buy your own fabric makes them unique which is a good feeling.

I've made them for most of my windows, they fit much better than bought ones and I lined them as well for better insulation.

  • Hi

Would you pay £410 supply only excluding fabric?

there are 13 blind companies in my local paper. all advertising approx 3 x blinds for 100 quid. (some inc roman blinds).

im sure they would travel to your area for 800 quid!
    Get some gorm.

    Hi

I am a curtain and blind maker...depending on the pattern repeat of the fabric, will determine the amount of fabric you require. I have based my totals and price on plain fabric. If it's not plain then give me more details on the fabric and I will be happy to help you further.

116cm drop x 115cm wide = 2.6m fabric required (total for both) I would charge £106.72 total to make both plus fabric and track

100cm drop x 58cm wide = 1.1m fabric required I would charge £40 total to make this plus fabric and track.

If the fabric is plain total fabric required is 3.7m

    Hope this helps

I also was horrified at the price of having a set of roman blinds made and fitted.

    A couple of solutions

Terrys fabrics sell roman blind kits - so you can then choose the fabric to match your home - www.terrysfabrics.co.uk

also if you are thinking about making your own from scratch this video "how to make roman blinds" is quite helpful.
