Removal of economy 7 heaters

Hi all
At the moment I have a pre pay meter which I've had for over 25 years. I have economy 7 heaters which I no longer use as council have fitted new central heating and they are taking out the old heaters. I need to change tariff What do I need to look for in a new tarIff? If that makes any sense

Many thanks
Nicky

Hi Nicky, are the new heaters standard panel heaters? How is your water heated?

It used to be by Electric but now I have a boiler that connect to the main supply at the bottom of our block of flats if that make sence

You need to be looking for the same, whether E7 or single rate.
    i.e. cost and customer service.

Before you decide to pay full rate 24/7, use a comparison site to ensure that receiving low rate electricity for 7 of those 24 hours doesn't continue to work out cheaper despite you using significantly less low rate electricity now.

If you decide paying pull rate electricity 24/7 is the way you really want to go, then get your meter changed to a single rate one. (a charge may apply)

The new boiler that has been installed - Is this an Electric boiler or is it Gas, and if it is Gas where is the meter?

Not necessarily a good idea. Many suppliers will happily give you the single rate tariff simply by adding the two readings together.

If you get rid of the E7 meter you'll lose the ability to benefit from E7 rates that work out cheaper. Always get quotations for both E7 and single rate, and stick with the existing E7 meter unless and until most of the best offers insist on a single rate meter.

Thanks, so does that mean neither of your heating or hot water are heated by electric?

I might be tempted to keep the storage heaters for now at least. They'll come in handy if your boiler packs up, plus of course the wall will likely have a shadow of them in the paint if you remove them.

The OP should consider switching to a credit tariff to get cheaper electricity. A tariff without exit fees from Symbio might be a good place to start: they are likely to be among the cheapest, and as they operate a glorified variable direct debit system there's no risk of a nasty shock when a DD set too low is found to have built up serious arrears.

Then take monthly meter readings to get an idea of the new usage pattern. Check the price comparison websites to see whether E7 or single rate is better, and also consider a fixed tariff.
