Question re: after switching current account

I have just switched current accounts from Halifax to NatWest using the switch guarantee. It all complete this morning at around 7am. However I still had my old Halifax account linked to my bus ticket app which I used this morning at about 6am. I have just checked my Halifax account and the bus fare amount is now appearing in the account even though this is technically now closed. All my remaining balance was transferred successfully but there is just this remaining amount in there now.

What should I do? Should I transfer the amount from my new account over to the old account to cover it?

I'd just leave it for now, it should sort itself out, and apart from anything else, if you send money from your new account to your old one, it'll just automatically redirect straight back again!
  • Why do you not 'unlink' the Halifax account from the bus ticket app and 'link' your Natwest account instead?

I have now but it was early in the morning when I got the bus and didn’t even think about the switch while half asleep!

Watch out that you don't get loaded with overdraft charges. Call Halifax as soon as you get a chance and ask them how they want this settled.

They like Lloyds don't charge for unarranged borrowing.

Has it been closed or have the Halifax sent the available funds to Nat West and held back on the card transaction?
It will sort itself out however if it turns out you owe the Halifax the funds then sort it out as soon as possible with them. If you have the switch guarantee then technically Nat West are the bank you speak to you about this as the guarantee is there to ensure the switch is done without any incurred charges or cost to you.

Part of the switch is that the debit card payment will/should transfer over to the new account. Might take a couple of days.
