Black Friday - Refusing Exchange.

Hi all,

I bought a coat from a online retailer at a Black Friday sale price. On receiving the coat today it’s a bit small and so I contacted them to see whether I could exchange for the next size up.

The company have refused the exchange and will only refund. However the coat price has now gone back up and therefore I’ll have to pay full price to purchase it in the size I would like.

Their reasoning behind this was; “ Over the last few years we have found that given the order volumes and discounts that were offered during Black Friday, we are unable to offer exchanges with the same level of service that we are normally able to achieve. Exchanges at such hugely busy times can lead to stock issues and delays.”

I’m so annoyed, it was an expensive purchase that I waited for Black Friday for to make it more affordable. Are they within their rights?

They are within their rights to refund you. You cannot force them to exchange at the same price.

Edited to add: If you're unsure of the most suitable size, next time, buy one in each of the two sizes and return the one that doesn't fit for a full refund.

Yes, your right is to a refund, not an exchange.

Assuming they don't have an exchange policy offered, or have one that stated Black Friday items were excluded from it.

And be prepared to pay the return postage:)
