(not for me in case someone thinks I've dumped electric :D )

Probably an auto version. Wasn't impressed with the auto on Aygo but that might be different to Yaris auto? Max budget probably around £10k. Needs to have a decent boot to fit a buggy and I know that Yaris will just do it.

I know there are lots of other similar sized cars but i have no experience of them.

    The 2 you mentioned.

Or Yaris Verso for a bigger boot.

Would say Dacia Sandero has it has no auto option

I think the Aygo still has the MMT (Multimode), that's probably why you weren't impressed. I had a Mk 2 Yaris with that transmission, absolutely dire.
For £10k you can afford a Mk 3 Yaris, the "auto" has Multidrive transmission, i.e. CVT. I've owned a pre-reg. Yaris for close on 6 years now, 1.33l petrol, CVT. Pleased with it too. Far better than the MMT

I was looking at these sort of cars before I went EV with the Zoe.

Your the last person I have to preach to, but for small autos you really can't beat an EV....!
Would it not be practical for this particular owner?

    £10 k budget though...
  • I’ve owned both a Yaris and a Jazz, out of the two the Jazz has the bigger boot.

There's a few options, but I agree, it does restrict things.

Looking at 24kWh Leaf's or battery leased Zoe's (22kWh would be well under budget, 41kWh would be possible, but tricky).

Increasing that budget by around £4-5k would open up the 30kWh Leaf, battery owned 41kWh Zoe (what I ended up buying), 21kWh BMW i3, or the 30kWh Kia Soul EV.

I wouldn't consider the early Leafs or the Zoe's since they have very low range or don't come with fast charging but You're correct an extra £5k would make some EVs affordable. I was thinking more of longer journeys but then they could swap with me (I'll have the new 64kWh Soul by then) so maybe I'll look at those.
Plus the way prices are going for s/h EVs, over say 5 years it could work out cheaper than a £10k petrol.

And the magic seats make it much more versatile.

(wife has also owned both). She preferred the driving experience of the Yaris but the overall versatility of the Jazz.

You might be able to get a new model Fiat Tipo for the money but the autos are rare.
Nice car for the money if space is your main criterion.

I've just spent a week in a Renault Captur 1.2 EDC (dual clutch auto) and it's about the best auto I've driven in years.
It's far smoother than VAG's DSG in the Polo/Ibiza/Arona or the new Fiesta with it's torque converter box.

Unlike the DSG it's stutter free from the off, the only sensation of any gear change is a tiny "burp" when it kicks down, the rest of the time it's pretty seamless.
You don't have to pay the price at the pumps either, there not much in mpg in real world driving.

One is well within the 10K budget, plenty of space in it, front back and boot, good safety as well and seeing as there's a need for a buggy, hence kids, the seat covers zip off and can be washed in a washing machine.

I was so taken by it, I'm tempted to cough up for the new Clio RS Line with the EDC box.

Probably no need to warn you to steer clear of automated manuals, god awful things.
