Universal credit shared ownership

We’re looking at purchasing a shared ownership house and we currently get help with our rent with universal credit. Would UC help pay for the rent side of our house?

    Yes it would
    Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

    Ground rent cannot be covered by Universal Credit.

    Service charges can be included but it depends on what they are for. Do you have a breakdown of the service charges?

    Service charges that fall within the following category headings can be included in a Universal credit award.

    Category A - Payments to maintain the general standard of the accommodation.
    Category B - Payments for the general upkeep of areas of communal use.
    Category C - Payments in respect of basic communal services.
    Category D – Accommodation-specific charges.
