Is anyone aware of a box that permits playing from a USB on a TV which has no USB facility ?
While it can be done with a decoder box, none that I have found seem to work well.

Any Android box running Kodi should play almost anything you throw at it.
But as above, it would help if you said what file format the stuff is on the stick?0 -
An Inter compute stick is basically a W10 computer in stick form and with a USB slot will play anything you need to play0

I was hoping for a general purpose box to replace the DVD player which I currently use. I would expect to use it with various TVs (the TVs which already have a USB port are not partcularly flexible) and for a variety of video streams.debitcardmayhem wrote: »Might help if you say what the TV is and does it have HDMI and what is on the USB you want to play
What amazes me is that such a device does not seem to be readily available.0 -

It does ... it's a small form factor media player, either self-built using a Pi or similar, or as an Android TV box.0 -
Buy a cheap dvd or Blu-ray player but make sure it has a USB socket, mine has and it plays most video formats, mpg, mp4, avi and so on, and it displays jpgs, i.e. photos.brianposter wrote: »I was hoping for a general purpose box to replace the DVD player which I currently use. Lots of nice small devices suggested - I'll go a bit more old school - a PC! You might already have one lying around that would be perfect for that USB stick, streaming and loads of other stuff. Heck, it might even have a DVD player. This is the cheapest suggestion I've seen.
And as for that general purpose box OP wants, as capital0ne suggests, a DVD player with a USB port would do great.
Now, let's talk about what file type is on the stick...!0 -
I use a Sumvision Cyclone 4 box for this sort of thing , works well enough for what I need ... would that work for you?
