Wrong readings

Hi, I am leaving in my flat about 14 months ago and in june I decided to change eon to octopus energy, they asked me for readings and the electric meter was the one they told me when we moved in but the gas meter they told me a wrong one so I just gave wrong gas meters, they got a discrepancy with eon that says my last meter reading is 0015, and the meter readings i was supplied, from wrong meter, was 4680, today I went to check my meter and the gardener cut the grass so i can see it and I realised was the wrong meter so I checked the correct one and the reading was 9847!!, so I came upstairs check my last bill from eon and said estimated from feb’19 until jun’19 9880 to 0015.....sooo how is possible that my meter show now less than that, cause it is impossible I used 9800 from June to now!!!

You have been supplying frequent meter readings ??
Looks like you have not judged by your post .

The reading on the meter itself is the total usage since it was installed, probably many years ago, not the amount used since the last bill.

All that's happened is that your usage has been slightly over-estimated because you weren't sending correct readings. In reality your meter has simply 'gone round the clock' just like a old car's mileometer going from 99999 miles to 00000. It doesn't mean the car is brand new again, it just means it's done 100,000 miles.

Just keep submitting the correct readings every month and all will be well.

Hello MariaRo and welcome to the Forums.

When you changed supplier, our final bill will have been based on the same meter readings Octopus Energy have used to start their account. This makes sure the same energy is only charged once.

Without actual readings, estimates will have been used based on the meter reading history held for the property. Don't worry that these readings look out of line with the one you've taken. As Gerry1 says, all that's happened is the meter has gone round the clock and started again from zero.

From your figures, the actual usage on our final bill covering Feb19 (9880) to June 19 (0015) is 135 units. For a 4 dial gas meter, this converts to approx 4253 kWh.

    Sorry to lose you MariaRo.
