Switching from SSE to Eon
Just curious if my SSE smart meters will get switched to Eon smart meters or if they are compatible with their system.
I know they will work as 'dumb' meters but having had smart meters for a few years, I like them.
And also, will SSE want their smart meters back?

They will probably be dumb following the switch (SMETS2 have only been used for the last few months, not 2 years - get into the habit of reading them every month.
No, SSE won't want them back.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

When you switch supplier, all that changes is the people you pay, the people you contact for customer support (not for power failures, which remains the same), and most importantly, the price you pay :money:
All the rest remains the same. Its the same power, coming through the same pipes or wires, recorded by the same meters. No one ever visits you to carry out any modifications as none are required.
Please refer to this MSE article that addresses many questions about switching energy supplier and saving money as a result

Hello duncanthedog and many thanks for joining us.
As Robin9 and Benight say, we'll take over the existing smart meters at your home. SSE won't want them back.
I suspect you've the earlier SMETS1 meters. These meters lose their smart features following a change of supplier. We're currently trialling upgrades to these meters to restore their smart features so they can be managed in the same way as the later SMETS2 meters. This includes meters fitted by other suppliers and now supplied by us.
There are some early installations (mainly from 2014 and before) where this won't be possible. In these cases, we'll offer to fit new SMETS2 meters.
If you're okay for an upgrade, this will be done remotely so there's no need to visit your home. The trial is at an advanced stage and we're looking to complete all upgrades by December 2020. We'll write to let you know.
Hope this explains duncanthedog and thanks again for switching to us.

I thought that it might be something as simple as changing the sim card in the meters.0
