Either connect phone to pc/laptop and copy & paste or if you have a cloud
Based açcount (Google photos, Dropbox, OneDrive etc) just login and download"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -

When you connect your phone to a PC it starts charging it by default.
You don't say what version Moto G you have but you need to change it from charging to file transfer. This might explain it better https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-207459/0 -
If the screen is knackered then enabling MTP (file transfer) after connecting the USB may be a matter of trial and error ... try to press the part of the screen where you think the MTP prompt/option will be.0

"screen is dodgy", does that bean the picture is unwatchable in places, no picture, touch screen is not working, intermittenf?
to stop glass splinters in fingers use a aluminium foil finger
I would try file manager + app on the phone. Select "access from a PC" option this turn your phone into an ftp server. from here I use filezilla (ftp client), but think a web page may also work?0 -
Have you signed into your gmail account on a PC.
The photos will be in google photos if it was set up properly0 -

If the touch is not working, but you are still able to see the screen, just connect a USB mouse to the phone and use that.0
