Bedford or MK?

  • Well I work in the area, and don't want to move too far from where I grew up, for now.
    I don';t have kids, and want a studio and/or 1 bed flat.
Commuting to London isn't a priority, but for me they're both equal since Thameslink/East Midlands (Bedford) and Virgin/South Connect (MK) take equal time to reach London imho.

I guess I'm just looking for a place which is good for singles, and has activities, parks, leisure, etc.

Try renting in each place for 6 months and see how you feel about it

Without knowing your reason for why it has to be either, it's impossible to say.

If you said commute to London I'd say MK for superior transport links. If you said for schools, I'd say the Harpur trust Bedford private schools. If you wanted a more city feel and better shops, then MK.

Give us something to work with OP 😉

    Do you need good schools?

MK is in 2 grammar school catchments. Bedford is not in any such catchment. There are some private schools in Bedford though (if that interests you).

Don't buy flat - buy a house (however small) in your budget as houses will be freehold.

Future rental potential is better in MK as lots of companies relocating from London to MK. Not so good in Bedford unless very near to station.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

I don't have nor want kids so schools for me aren't of interest.

I get the point about freehold, but then at best I may just want family to stay over from time to time, so I won't mind leasehold. I wouldn't mind renting to start off with, though I'd like something in my name to own.

Holiday Haggler I've been Money Tipped!
I've lived in Luton (10 years), Bedford (2 weeks - need I say more) and MK (7 years) - Hated Bedford, although I here the new villages at The Wixams and also Wootton are really nice.

MK feels like it has the facilities of London or Birmingham but without all of the congestion. MK is simply the best!
